Cisco Room Kit - Add New Device to Control Hub
Note: Instructions partially sourced from Cisco. The following article should be referenced for future advanced configurations or if this article becomes outdated: Activate a Board, Desk, or Room series device
Activate new device in Control Hub:
- Log in to Cisco Control Hub. This is the administration website for these devices.
-
https://admin.webex.com/
- If you do not have access to Control Hub, please contact:
- Brad Buege, bbuege@calbaptist.edu, (951) 343-3923
- Search existing workspaces to see if there is a workspace already configured for the destined location of your device.
- Ex: James ITS Conference Room

- If no workspace is available, create a new workspace by selecting "add workspace". Reference the following guide from Cisco on workspace best practice:
-
Add shared devices and services to a workspace
- Note: see section "Create a workspace and add service for Board, Desk, and Room Series devices".
- Within the workspace, generate an activation code. The activation code should be saved, and will need to be entered on the device's touch panel during setup. This code is what associates the device to it's workspace.
- In the top right-hand corner of the workspace, select the "..." symbol, then "Add Device"
- ex:
- Copy, email to yourself, or otherwise save the code as needed.
- Note: a new code could be generated in the future if this one is lost.
-

- Note: The following Cisco article may be referenced for Cisco's best practices on these codes:
- Generate an activation code for a device
- Physically setup the device including connecting all needed peripherals in room and network connection according to the setup instructions included with the codec.
- Allow the codec to update if a software update is required or requested immediately.
- After the software update, in the codec setup wizard, follow the on-screen instructions to join to Control Hub. Enter the requested 16-digit code.
- Allow the device to register to Control Hub and process any additional software updates.
- Note: Sometimes, the device needs to sit for 5 minutes or be restarted before a software update is found. You can reference the current software version in control hub to see whether or not an update is expected.
- Browse to the device's codec, then under heading "Configurations", select Configuration Templates

- Select the base template that best fits the device (Classroom vs Conference Room). This template will help save time by applying basic settings like time zone, time formats, screen orientations, etc.

- Select Next and review the settings which will be set by the device. Then, select Apply.

- A result screen will be displayed with successes and failures. Review the list as needed, then select close.

- Note: most failures are not of concern. The base template contains settings which may not even apply to your model device and therefore have failed. For example, in the example screenshot above, setting the default mic level for a secondary microphone failed. However, this device has no secondary microphone.
