Cisco Room Kit - Backup and Restore Codec Configuration
It is best practice to perform a backup of the codec configuration in the following scenarios:
- Per-semester, for disaster recovery purposes.
- This saves time and effort if a unit goes down at the start of the semester when support is at its busiest. You will already have a recent backup to restore the replacement codec to, which is tailored for that space.
- Before planned configuration changes on the device.
- This gives you something to revert back to, should your planned change not be successful.
- Before a planned physical move or relocation of the device.
Codec backup steps:
Note: Steps outlined are for a Cisco Codec or Codec Plus, but backing up any other type of telepresence device (Board 55, Desk Pro, etc.) are basically identical.
- Log in to Cisco Control Hub. This is the administration website for these devices.

-
Select Workspaces from the left-hand navigation.
- Search for the name of the codec's original location. You may also use the location drop down to filter by a list of buildings to assist in your search.
- Ex 1: James ITS Conference Room

- Within the workspace, select the codec.

- With the codec page, find the heading "Support" and select Local Device Controls > Launch.
-

- Note: Ensure you are on the CBU network, either locally or via VPN.
- On the resulting screen, select proceed.

- From the left-hand navigation menu of the codec web page, select Backup and Recovery. Then, ensure you have the "Backup" tab selected.
- On the backup screen, ensure all check boxes are checked, then select Download.

- A .zip file with the device configuration will be downloaded to your local machine.

- Note: A Box.com folder has been created to house these backups as needed. Link:

Restore codec configuration steps:
-
Repeat steps 1-5 above to access the codec web interface of the device you would like to restore a configuration to.
-
Note: If your replacement device has never been configured for usage at CBU (ex: RMA replacement unit shipped directly from Cisco, or new in box and otherwise has never been joined to Control Hub), follow the first-time setup instructions to join your device to Control Hub, then return to this step.

-
Select the "Restore" tab, then select the previously downloaded and saved backup .zip.
-
Note: there is no need to unzip the file. It can be uploaded as-is.

-
Select Upload to restore the settings. A success message will appear with the results after the upload is completed.

-
Though it is not always needed, depending on the complexity of the backup and what settings were changed from out of box, it is still a good idea to restart the endpoint.
-
Select the Restart and Shutdown tab, then select Restart.
