Blackboard Learn Access for Academic Chairs or Deans

The information in this article aims to highlight the features of Blackboard Learn access for Academic Deans at California Baptist University. Blackboard as an educational tool is provided and supported by Information Technology Services in partnership with the Teaching and Learning Center.

Access Overview

Academic Deans may access the following areas of Blackboard Learn for their respective school or college programs in a read only capacity:

Courses

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Admin

  2. Under heading Courses, select Courses

  3. Search for a course using the provided methods. Example:

    1. Course ID contains 2022-FA

  4. Select the blue text Course ID to view the course. 

  5. Quick Enroll as instructor to view course content: 

    1. Quick Unenroll when complete:


  • Discover if a course has been generated in Blackboard. 

  • Discover who is the Instructor of the course, by viewing the Instructor Name column. 

  • Discover courses using Original versus Ultra view. 

  • Discover if a course is available for students. 

    • Red circle with white X in the Status column means students cannot view this course, even if they are enrolled. Example:




Student Preview

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Admin

  2. Under heading Courses, select Courses

  3. Search for a course using the provided methods. Example:

    1. Course ID contains 2022-FA

  4. Select the blue text Course ID to view the course. 

  5. In the top right-hand corner of the course view, select the Enter Student Preview Icon 

  6. When complete, select Exit Preview > Delete the preview user and all data (recommended). Then select Continue

  • General view of course content. 

  • Viewing the course as a student would see it. 

  • Troubleshooting items a student has access to. If you can’t see it in this view, student’s can’t see it either.

  • Troubleshooting quiz or submission issues. You can take quizzes and submit assignment as a student would in this view.


Enrollments

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Admin

  2. Under heading Courses, select Courses

  3. Search for a course using the provided methods. Example:

    1. Course ID contains 2022-FA

  4. Hover over the Course ID and select the drop down carat. 

  5. Select Enrollments

  • Viewing persons marked as instructor in the course

  • Viewing persons in other course roles such as TA’s or Graders

  • Viewing what students are enrolled

  • Viewing student availability (status) in the course. 

    • Students with an unavailable status cannot see the course. Contact the registrar for any registration questions. 


Grade Center

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Admin

  2. Under heading Courses, select Courses

  3. Search for a course using the provided methods. Example:

    1. Course ID contains 2022-FA

  4. Select the blue text Course ID to view the course. 

  5. Quick Enroll as instructor to view course content. 

  6. In the left-hand course menu, select item Grade Center

  7. Select Full Grade Center

  • Viewing general grade data and student performance.

  • Viewing graded versus ungraded assignments. 

  • Reviewing student attempts.

  • Reviewing professor grade feedback.

  • Reviewing student responsibility agreement status


Course Evaluation

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Admin

  2. Under heading Courses, select Courses

  3. Search for a course using the provided methods. Example:

    1. Course ID contains 2022-FA

  4. Select the blue text Course ID to view the course. 

  5. Quick Enroll as instructor to view course content.

  6. In the left-hand course menu, select item Evaluation

  7. Select from the available evaluation options:

    1. Course Analytics

    2. Course Reports

    3. Performance Dashboard 

  • Running built in reports for course or student performance metrics
